Enhancing Cybersecurity Awareness in the Health Sector in Trinidad and Tobago
The SWRHA, in partnership with the TT-CSIRT and other industry experts, took a commendable step towards enhancing cybersecurity awareness within the healthcare sector in Trinidad and Tobago. A sequence of hybrid workshops provided valuable platforms for healthcare professionals to learn about emerging cyber threats and best practices to mitigate risks. The first in-person workshop was tailored towards a brief overview of the local cybersecurity threat landscape and equipped the executive team with tools and solutions that can be implemented to fortify the hospital’s cyber defense capabilities.
Two virtual workshops, which were hosted on October 22nd and November 19th, 2024 respectively, highlighted the importance of cybersecurity, common threats, attack vectors, and countermeasures. The presentation focused on real-world examples, and practical recommendations were given as it helped participants understand how cyber threats can impact their daily work and how to apply the knowledge gained to protect sensitive patient information and critical healthcare infrastructure.
The contributions of Ms. Jeniece Joseph, Head of Business Operations, Ms. Danielle Hector, Cybersecurity Research Assistant and Ms. Kareshma Ragoonathsingh, Jr. Cybersecurity Analyst, are noteworthy. Their emphasis on staying vigilant online and adopting best practices to protect individual and organizational data was essential for building a robust cyber posture within the healthcare sector.
