Our School Education Program: Speyside High School in Tobago

In a significant step towards enhancing cybersecurity awareness among the younger generation, TT-CSIRT hosted a comprehensive cybersecurity immersion workshop at Speyside High School in Tobago. The event saw over 200 enthusiastic students participate, eager to learn about the critical importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital age.

The full-day workshop provided students with an immersive introduction to cybersecurity basics. The curriculum covered essential concepts such as threat detection, incident response, and the importance of cyber hygiene. Additionally, students were informed about various education and career options in the rapidly growing field of cybersecurity, highlighting the numerous pathways and opportunities available to them.

Mr. Anish Bachu, an ICT Security Specialist and a key member of TT-CSIRT, played a pivotal role in the workshop. He guided students through various cybersecurity scenarios and emphasized the significance of staying vigilant against cyber threats. His presentations included real-world examples and practical advice on protecting both personal and institutional data.

The day’s activities culminated in TT-CSIRT’s signature Capture The Flag (CTF) competition. This engaging and competitive event challenged students to apply their newly acquired knowledge by solving a series of tasks in areas such as cryptography, digital forensics, cyber threat intelligence, and cybersecurity fundamentals. The CTF competition not only tested their skills but also fostered teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

Overall, the cybersecurity immersion workshop at Speyside High School in Tobago was a resounding success. It demonstrated the importance of educating the next generation about cybersecurity and provided them with the skills and awareness needed to navigate and secure the digital world.
